저희가 너무 기다리던 소식이긴 한테 언제 뉴질랜드 국경을 오픈을 할지는 아직 까지도 미지수 입니다. 현재 뉴질랜드로 오려는 유학생 이민 준비 하던 분들이 너무 많은데.. 저희는 물론 모든 교육 업계가 손을 놓고 망연자실 하고 있는 상황입니다. 섣불리 국경을 오픈 하는 것은 누구도 원지 않지만.. 너무 큰 타격을 입고 있는 관광업계와 유학업계에서는 뉴질랜드 정부의 효율적이고 실현 가능한 안전한 조치를 통해서 한국처럼 코로나 위기 상황을 극복하고 안정되어 있는 나라에는 최대한 빨리 오픈을 했으면 좋겠네요. 

오픈과 동시에 항공편이 운항이 될지도 미지수라 입국 시기는 불확실 하지만 뉴질랜드 정부에서 긍정적인 자세로 검토중이니 좀더 기다려 보면 좋은 결과가 있지 않을까 싶네요. 

Govt considers reopening international student industry

His comments follow an assurance from Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Grant Guilford, who told the Epidemic Response Committee on Tuesday that the university could quarantine international students at zero risk to public health.

The international education sector is worth $5 billion a year, and the education sector, including secondary schools, has been feeling the financial squeeze from the borders being closed to non-New Zealanders.

Hipkins told media today that international students were more likely than foreign tourists to want to come to New Zealand if there was still a need for a 14-day quarantine on arrival.

“Unlike tourists who are coming here for a short period of time, international students are coming here for a year or more.

‘It’s quite possible that we would be able to work with international education providers to manage a period of quarantine at the beginning of, say, a year’s worth of study so they can come into New Zealand.

크리스 힙킨스 교육부 장관은 해외 유학생들이 안전하게 검역을 마치는 조건으로 뉴질랜드로 입국할 수 있도록 하는 정부의 방침을 밝혔다.

연간 50억 달러 규모의 해외 유학생 교육 분야가 뉴질랜드 시민권자와 영주권자 이외에는 국경 출입이 통제되면서 경제적으로 엄청난 피해를 보고 있다.

어제 힙킨스 장관은 단기적인 해외 관광객들에게 적용할 수 없는 도착 후 14일간의 격리가 유학생들에게는 적용되지만, 격리를 마치고 난 후 당해 연도 동안의 학업을 뉴질랜드에서 할 수 있도록 교육 기관들과 준비를 할 것으로 밝혔다.

그러면서, 힙킨스 장관은 14일 간의 격리 후에는 해외 유학생들이 뉴질랜드 사회에 코로나 바이러스 위협이 되지는 않을 것으로 강조했다.
